Streaming

Stream2

Danielle received her Secondary 3 streaming results a couple of weeks ago.

She wasn’t very happy.

You may ask—what is “streaming”?

Don’t ask me. I’m clueless as well.

Well, not really. I have SOME clue but when it comes to Singapore’s complicated top-notch education system, people like me who prefer a simple life would rather just “go with the flow.” If I had a choice, I would prefer to home-school my daughter.

Anyway. I looked up the word “stream” as in streaming in the dictionary and it said, British; a group in which schoolchildren of the same age and ability are taught.

So in other words, based on her examination results, Danielle was given several subject combinations which she would like to pursue next year.

She can only pick 5 combinations. And so based on those 5 choices, the school will place her in the subjects that she can excel in.

So it is understandable that she put her favorite combination as her 1st Choice. I mean, why would the school give her one of the other choices when her year-end results were pretty awesome? She is first in her class and 4th in her level after all.

But guess what?

She got her 5th choice.

What the fish?

She was really disappointed. At first, she thought of just “going with the flow” as in take what the school “picked” for her.

But I could tell she was really, really disappointed. I told her, “It’s up to you, darling. You’re the one attending  school.

And then she said, “I can appeal…”

Ya, go for it! Won’t hurt.”  I said, “Do you want me to write a letter for you?

Um…no lah. I can do it myself. Got an appeal e-form on our school website. I can submit there. What do I say, Mum?

Tell them, “WHAT THE FISH DO YOU THINK I WORKED SO HARD FOR AND THEN YOU GIVE ME MY BL**DY 5TH CHOICE?!”

She laughed. I said, “Just tell them the truth, dear. The truth always works.”

She nodded and reached for her Mac.

She asked me to check what she wrote. Not bad. Click SUBMIT. And she did.

So all’s well that ends well. Her school approved her appeal and she got her 1st Choice.

Danielle is so happy. She can now enjoy the rest of her holiday without a grey cloud hovering above her head all the time.

See? The Truth always works. And how will you get what you want if you don’t go for it, right? Aka CREATING YOUR REALITY.
