blind boy

A six-year-old boy in China had his eyes gouged out, blinding him for life, reports said Tuesday, in a gruesome attack that may have been carried out by a ruthless organ trafficker.

Family members found the boy covered in blood some three to four hours after he went missing while playing outside, according to a television report posted online.

The child’s eyes were found nearby but the corneas were missing, reports said, implying that an organ trafficker was behind the harrowing attack.

Police offered a 100,000 yuan ($16,000) reward for information leading to the arrest of the sole suspect, who they said was a woman.

“He had blood all over his face. His eyelids were turned inside out. And inside, his eyeballs were not there,” his father told Shanxi Television.

Its report showed the heavily-bandaged boy being taken from an operating theatre and placed in a hospital bed, writhing in agony as family members stood at his bedside weeping.

The boy was drugged and “lost consciousness” before the attacker removed his eyes, state broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV) said on its account on Sina Weibo, China’s version of Twitter.

Internet users were outraged by the attack on the boy — who had a cleft palate — in Fenxi, in the northern province of Shanxi on Monday.

“This is extraordinarily vicious,” said one Sina Weibo user. “How and why could someone be so cruel?”

“A truly tragic boy,” said another poster.

About 300,000 patients in China need transplants each year, but only about 10,000 people can get them due to a lack of donors, state media said.

Seven people were jailed last year when a teenager sold a kidney for an illicit transplant operation and used the proceeds to buy an iPhone and iPad.

Child organs are usually more expensive on the black market, an organ trafficker told Sina Internet news portal in 2010, as “most people think the younger the donor is, the better the quality of organs”.

bus stabbing

Four killed, 11 injured including a 10-year old in China bus stabbing.

Police in China cordon off the scene after a knife-wielding passenger ran amok on this bus, killing four passengers and injuring 11 others. The attack took place on Sunday night in the southwestern city of Chengdu. State media said the suspect began hacking at passengers before he got off the bus and attacked people on the street. Police then opened fire on the suspect and subdued him. Several victims, including a 10-year-old girl, remain in critical condition at a local hospital. According to local police reports, the suspect is a worker from a nearby county who told police he was having ‘financial disputes’ with his family.

Eight-year-old shot elderly woman after playing video game
An 8-year-old boy from rural Louisiana shot and killed his elderly caregiver just minutes after he finished playing a violent video game, police have said.
The child was released to his parents and has not been charged in the shooting on Thursday evening about 100 miles northwest of New Orleans in Slaughter, Louisiana, the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Department said.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting of Marie Smothers remain under investigation, the sheriff’s department said in a statement. They boy’s name was not released.
The boy initially told investigators he accidentally shot Smothers while playing with a firearm, but an investigation led police to believe he intentionally shot her in the back of the head as she sat in her living room, the department said.
Police said a motive for the shooting was not known, but investigators learned the boy was playing the video game “Grand Theft Auto IV” minutes before the shooting.
The game as “a realistic game that has been associated with encouraging violence and awards points to players for killing people,” police said.
Take-Two Interactive, whose Rockstar Games studio develops the Grand Theft Auto games, said in a statement on Monday that it was shocked by the shooting saying the event “further emphasizes the urgent need for America to address the availability of dangerous weapons to people who obviously shouldn’t have access to them,” the statement said.
“Ascribing a connection to entertainment – a theory that has been disproven repeatedly by multiple independent studies – both minimizes this moment and sidesteps the real issues at hand,” the company said.

girl with gun

A seven-year-old girl has shot dead her friend, aged six, with her grandfather’s revolver while playing at a farm in South Africa, police said on Monday.
“They were playing together and in the process she got hold of the revolver, which hit the deceased in the face,” said police spokeswoman Ronel Otto.

The girl died on the scene, police said.

The slain girl was the daughter of a farm worker and had been friends with the farmer’s granddaughter for some time.

“The seven-year-old was visiting her grandparents on a farm outside Bela-Bela when she allegedly shot her friend with a 0.38 revolver,” Otto told AFP.

The incident occurred on Saturday and the surviving girl is now back with her parents in Johannesburg.

Police have opened a murder case but are waiting for a cue from the national prosecution authority on how to proceed with the case, given it involves a minor.

The 60-year-old grandfather is due to appear in court on Monday on charges of negligent handling of a firearm.

South Africa has tough gun ownership legislation but many citizens own firearms.

A lobby group Gun Free South Africa estimated that in 2011, there were 2.9 million registered guns in a country with a population of nearly 52 million.
